A Summerhill Township man already in jail for the severe beating of Michael Pcola is scheduled to be arraigned this afternoon on a criminal homicide charge in Pcola’s death.
The suspect, Gregory Conzo, 50, of the 100 block of Sierra Street, had been charged by township police with attempted homicide in the beating of Pcola Nov. 5 at Pcola’s house.
Pcola died two days later at Memorial Medical Center in Johnstown. Authorities have been awaiting the final autopsy report before upgrading the charge to criminal homicide.
District Attorney Kelly Callihan and Coroner Dennis Kwiatkowski are to hold a news conference tomorrow to discuss the autopsy findings and the filing of the charges.
Police alleged that Conzo attacked Pcola with an aluminum bat after being involved in a brief argument with Lois Pcola, Conzo’s one-time girlfriend, and their daughter, Maria.
Conzo allegedly hit his daughter first with the bat and then swung again and hit Michael Pcola on the side of his head. The victim was Lois Pcola’s son. He had been upstairs and went down to check when he heard the argument.
