Deer causes fatal crash

BOSWELL — A Fayette County man was killed Friday when a deer crashed through the windshield of his crossover SUV on Route 30 in Jenner Township.

State police in Somerset identified the deceased as Ralph Striner, 56, of Connellsville.

Troopers said Lynda Gregg of Arnold, Maryland, was driving a 2010 Toyota Sequoia east on Route 30 near Main Street when she struck a deer about

1 p.m. The impact threw the animal into the path of Striner’s 2014 Chevrolet Equinox.

The deer crashed into the windshield, killing Striner, troopers said.

Somerset County Coroner Wallace Miller said an autopsy is scheduled today at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center in Johnstown.

Authorities said a passenger in Striner’s vehicle was injured. The name of that person and extent of the injuries were not available.

PennDOT closed Route 30 near Main Street and Ralphton Road to clear the wreckage.
