The Patton and Hastings Volunteer Firefighter Relief Associations have passed state audits, state Auditor General Jack Wagner reported.
The Patton audit covered the period from Jan. 1, 2005, to Dec. 31, 2006. The Hastings audit was from Jan. 1, 2005, to Dec. 31, 2007.
The associations receive state aid from a 2 percent tax on fire insurance purchased by state residents from companies incorporated outside the state.
The money is used to buy insurance to protect firefighters, purchase equipment and cover training expenses, Wagner said.
Two slightly hurt in school bus accident
SIDMAN – Miller Motor Co.’s bus 10 was involved in a minor accident Wednesday morning while transporting students from Forest Hills High School to the Greater Johnstown Career and Technology Center.
The accident occurred in front of the high school.
The school nurse assessed the students. Two students were slightly injured in the accident. Their parents were notified of the incident.
Police investigate photo sent via cell phone
HOLLIDAYSBURG – State police said Tuesday they are looking for students who may have received a semi-nude photo of a 15-year-old girl sent via cell phone.
The photo of the Duncansville girl was sent to various locations in Blair County between Dec. 1 and 16. The photo appears to have been sent to students at Hollidaysburg Junior High School.
Troopers are encouraging parents to check with children to see if they received the photo. Anyone with the photo still on his or her cell phone is asked to contact state police.
Central City woman injured in wreck
CENTRAL CITY – A woman was transported to Memorial Medical Center in Johnstown early Wednesday following a one-car wreck on Rock Cut Road, Route 160, just outside the borough.
State police said a 2005 Nissan Sentra driven by Devra Snediker, 58, of Leppart Road, Central City, slid off the icy road about 5:15 a.m. The car struck a tree, spun clockwise, struck another tree and came to rest on another tree.
Snediker was extricated from the wreckage by members of the Central City Volunteer Fire Department and driven to the hospital via Northern EMS. The extent of her injuries was unknown, police said.
A passenger in the car, Irving Saylor, 60, of Rock Cut Road was taken to Memorial by Berlin EMS with minor injuries, police said.
Suspect sought in robbery at Altoona Sheetz
ALTOONA – Police are looking for whoever displayed a knife and robbed the Sheetz at Lloyd Street and 6th Avenue late Tuesday.
Altoona police said that, after showing the weapon, the man reached into the cash register and made off with an undisclosed amount of money.
