Coroner launches 4th campaign

— Somerset County Coroner Wallace Miller has announced that he’s running for a fourth consecutive term in office.
Miller, the first to announce his candidacy for coroner, will seek the Republican nomination in the May 19 primary.
He had served for 16 years as deputy coroner prior to his first election in 1996.
Miller gained national acclaim following the crash of hijacked Flight 93 near Shanksville during the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks. He has spoken throughout North America on mass fatality management as a result of that work.
Miller said that in his nearly 12 years as county coroner, he has “gained a wealth of experience, ranging from mass fatality management to death investigations at emergency rooms of all three hospitals in Somerset County, as well as both state prisons, the county jail and private residences.”
He is a regular speaker to drunken-driving offenders through the Somerset County Adult Probation ARD program and juvenile court programs.
He also has spoken in schools on topics that include driver safety, drug awareness, suicide awareness, forensic investigation and funeral service as a tool in grief management.
Miller has been an assistant basketball and track coach in the Somerset Area School District since 1996.
He is a member of Pennsylvania Homicide Investigators Association, Travelers Protective Association, Pennsylvania Farm Bureau and Pennsylvania Coroners Association and is a charter member of the county team that reviews child deaths.
Miller is president of the Somerset County Funeral Directors Association. He and his wife, Arlene, own and operation Miller Funeral Home, which has locations in Somerset and Rockwood.
