Scalp project slated to start

The Tribune-Democrat

PennDOT said Friday that, beginning next week, weather permitting, work will begin on the Scalp Avenue signal improvements project in Richland Township and Geistown Borough.

The contractor, Dixon Electric, will begin work at the intersections cutting loop sensors into the road for the new traffic signals and also will begin hanging the new signal heads.

The work could require short term delays and will be done under daylight traffic control.

Delays up to 10 minutes are possible.

Dixon Electric of Claysburg is the contractor on this $1.5 million project.

The overall project will remove 11 existing traffic signals on Scalp Avenue between the Route 56/219 interchange to the intersection of Scalp and Terlyn Drive.

Traffic signals will be updated with new technology that will allow synchronization of traffic lights.

The contract also calls for installation of six dynamic message signs and four closed-circuit TV systems along the Route 56 and 219 corridors.

The project is completely funded with state money. All work is anticipated to be completed by mid-June.
