Councilman returns to Central City board

By PATRICK BUCHNOWSKI
The Tribune-Democrat

CENTRAL CITY After a one-year hiatus, Central City resident Dan Bulger is returning to Borough Council.

Bulger was a councilman for 14 years before losing his seat in the 2008 election.

He was appointed last month to fill a vacancy created by the resignation of Alan Klonisky.

The appointment was welcomed by council President Dan Dabbs, who called Bulger dedicated.

Bulger is credited with bringing Windber Medical Center staff to Central City for a few hours each week to draw blood for patients.

“Dan was the lead man in getting the program set up,” Dabbs said. “It’s been successful. People don’t have to travel to Windber.”

Bulger approached hospital administrators with the idea several years ago.

Borough Council then approved the plan, which began in November 2007.

Anyone from the Central City area can have blood drawn from 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Wednesdays in the Wilson Community Room at the municipal building.

“I’ll help the community any way that I can,” Bulger said.

Former Councilman Lee Cook and resident Craig Rose also were appointed to fill recent vacancies on the seven-member council.
