Bedford man killed

By KATHY MELLOTT
The Tribune-Democrat

BEDFORD State police Monday arrested a Bedford County man suspected in the bludgeoning death of his father earlier in the day.

Harold I. Turner, 29, of the 2400 block of Flintstone Creek Road, Clearville, was arrested Monday afternoon in Ohio in the murder of Harold L. Turner, 60, of the same address.

“I don’t have a whole lot of details at this point,” said Bedford County District Attorney William Higgins. “We know this happened close to the state line.”

State police at Bedford said an altercation occurred at 5:45 a.m. Monday, and the victim was hit on the head with a blunt object.

The fight reportedly was over use of a car.

The elder Turner was flown to Cumberland Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later, authorities said.

Police said the suspect fled the scene in a light blue 1995 Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera.

The search focused in the Cumberland, Md., area, where the younger Turner was known to frequent.

Higgins said the murder weapon, which he would not identify, was found at the scene and there is no indication the suspect had any other weapons in his possession.
