Dorel Industries, parent company of Cannondale bicycles, announced on Thursday that it will cut 200 jobs from its manufacturing facility in Bedford.
The move is part of a global restructuring by the company. Dorel said that the move will cost it no more than $4.5 million this year, but expects it will save the company as much as $4 million a year moving forward.
Final bicycle and Headshok assembly, CNC Machining, testing, quality control, bicycle warranty repair, inside sales, customer support and a new call center will continue at the Bedford facility. However, bicycle frame manufacturing will be sent overseas, allowing the company to reduce its local workforce from 300 to 100.
Cannondale, as recently as six years ago, employed more than 600 workers at two plants in Bedford County.
