Ex-supervisor waives hearing

By KATHY MELLOTT
The Tribune-Democrat

HASTINGS Drug charges against a former Susquehanna Township supervisor will move to Cambria County court.

Jody L. Stanick, 45, of the 400 block of Shawna Road, Northern Cambria, waived his preliminary hearing before District Judge Michael Zungali of Hastings on Tuesday.

Stanick was charged in January with felony drug possession after state police said they found 5 ounces of marijuana at his residence. He is charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and harassment.

The arrest came in the wake of a Nov. 16 state police response to a domestic dispute between Stanick and a woman identified as Edith Harrington.

Police said Stanick locked the front door of the house and refused to allow troopers to enter. After they got in through a basement door, Harrington told the troopers there was something in the basement that they might want.

She gave police a blue plastic coffee can containing a substance that was later confirmed to be marijuana.

Stanick was appointed as a township supervisor in October 2007 to fill the unexpired term of his father, Joe Stanick Jr., who died in September 2007.

The younger Stanick resigned in November 2008 because he was unable to attend meetings due to his work schedule.
