IN BRIEF | Emeigh bridge to close for repairs

— The bridge carrying Route 219 over Emeigh Run will be closed beginning Monday to enable PennDOT maintenance crews to make repairs to the concrete bridge deck.
The bridge is near the village of Emeigh in Susquehanna Township.
Traffic will be detoured from Route 219 to Route 4027 (Main Street and Double Dam Road). Travelers will pick up Route 219 again in Northern Cambria Borough. The eight-mile detour is expected to be in place for about a week.
During a recent routine safety inspection, PennDOT determined that the bridge, built in 1924, will need deck repairs in order to maintain current daily traffic volumes.
A project to replace the bridge is tentatively scheduled for 2012.

Student works precede ‘Art in Bloom’ show
EBENSBURG – Student artwork from six local schools will be displayed in downtown Ebensburg storefront windows to promote the 11th annual “Art in Bloom” spring art show scheduled April 25 and 26.
Committee members began hanging the student works this week. The pieces will remain in the store windows through the end of the month.
Participating schools include Central Cambria Elementary, Middle and High schools; Holy Name Elementary; Jackson Elementary; and Bishop Carroll High School.
Each school was asked to submit six to eight pieces of student artwork for display.
“Art in Bloom,” featuring amateur and professional works, will be held at the Cambria County Courthouse.

The event is sponsored by the Ebensburg Area Business Commission and Main Street Partnership. The show is partially funded through a grant from the Community Foundation for the Alleghenies.

Area firm awarded Route 30 contract
New Enterprise Stone and Lime Co. Inc. of New Enterprise, Bedford County, was awarded a PennDOT contract for the Route 30 resurfacing project in Jennerstown Borough and Jenner Township.
With a bid of $1,256,648, the company was the lowest of four bidders, PennDOT said.
The project will consist of base repairs to the roadway, milling and overlay, and guiderail repairs as needed.
The project extends along Route 30 from the Westmoreland County line to the intersection with Route 985 (Jenner Street).
Work is anticipated to begin the first week of May and is expected to be completed by mid-September.
It is a federal economic recovery project.
