In brief: Overturned tanker spills load of milk

SOMERSET Hazardous material cleanup crews were called on Sunday after a tanker truck hauling milk overturned in Summit Township

Somerset County officials reported that the 7:16 a.m. spill occurred after the tractor-trailer overturned at 2922 Mason Dixon Highway, Old Route 219 spilling about 6,000 gallons of milk.

Volunteers from Garrett, Meyersdale, Sipesville and New Centerville fire companies along with the Somerset County Hazmat team and Meyersdale EMS responded to the call.

No additional details were available Sunday. State police are investigating.

Holocaust survivor to speak in Loretto

Judith Meisel, a Holocaust survivor and civil-rights activist, will present a program at St. Francis University describing her life experiences combating bigotry and racism.

She will speak at 6:30 p.m. April 23, in the Immaculate Conception Chapel, located on the Loretto campus.

The event is free and open to the public. No reservations or tickets are required.

Meisel’s presentational program is made possible through the partnership with the Jewish Federation of Greater Altoona.

High-speed crash kills two in Centre County

HOWARD – Police say a high-speed crash in Centre County has killed two people.

Police say a driver heading south on SR 150 in Howard Township went out of control just after 10 a.m. Saturday morning. The car spun around and crashed into an oncoming car near Bald Eagle State Park, splitting the first vehicle in half.

The driver of the first car, 20-year-old Tyler Schlegel, of Howard, was thrown from the vehicle and landed in a wooded area. State police say he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The other driver, 59-year-old David Veneziano, of Clarence, was taken by helicopter to Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, where he was pronounced dead.
