In brief: Applications for AAA ambassadors available

The Johnstown Oldtimers sponsors of the AAABA Tournament, have announced that AAABA ambassador applications are now available for young women ages 17-20.
Applications are available at the main office or athletic office at most area high schools or the following locations: United Jewelers, Main Street; The Chamber of Commerce and The Candy Store, Market Street, downtown Johnstown; and The Galleria Information Booth.
The 2009 AAABA Tournament is the 65th annual and will run Aug. 10-16. For more information: aaabagirls@hotmail.com.
Democrats plan rally at East Taylor fire hall
Democrats will hold a rally Thursday for races in Scalp Level, Nanty Glo, Ebensburg and Vintondale and the townships of East Taylor, Cambria, Jackson, Upper Yoder, Lower Yoder and Middle Taylor.
The rally will be held at 7 p.m. at the East Taylor fire hall,
403 Donruth Lane. Candidates are expected for the offices of judge, sheriff, supervisors and school board. The master of ceremonies will be state Rep. Frank Burns, D-East Taylor.
Event will celebrate life of cancer victim
An event to celebrate the life of Taunia Oechslin, a Westmont mother and wife who dedicated her life to fighting cancer, is scheduled for 1 to 4 p.m. May 2 at the Choices UCP Building at 119 Jari Drive in Richland Township.
Oechslin died April 9 after a three-year battle against cancer.
During the event, friends will share stories, photographs and memories of Oechslin.
While not required, donations in Oechslin’s memory will be accepted in support of Girls’ Night Out, an event that supports the Joyce Murtha Breast Care Center.
