NEW – Federal arson trial opens Monday

By SANDRA K. REABUCK
The Tribune-Democrat

JOHNSTOWN Jury selection is scheduled for Monday at the Federal Courthouse in Johnstown for the trial of a woman charged in the $1 million fire that destroyed Miller’s Pools, Spas & Skis in Richland Township five years ago.

Terri Beth Kerr Miller, 31, faces arson charges in which it’s alleged that she’s linked to setting the fire, although federal authorities have not revealed publicly how the fire was started.

More than 60 firefighters from 11 companies battled the Dec. 16, 2002, blaze in freezing temperatures. Township police and federal authorities investigated the blaze. Kerr was not indicted until April 2007.
