A Bedford County woman remains in a Pittsburgh hospital after being shot during an apparent attempted murder-suicide late Saturday, authorities said.
The man identified by police as the shooter – 30-year-old John Adelsbers – wounded the woman before killing himself, township police said.
Kimberly Grant, 42, of Everett, was airlifted to UPMC Presbyterian hospital, where she was listed in stable condition, police said.
The incident happened around 11:30 p.m. Saturday at a mobile home in the 600 block of Portage Road.
Police said they were dispatched for an “unknown problem” at the residence. While they were driving there, the incident was upgraded to a reported gunshot.
Police said that when they arrived, they found Grant with a gunshot wound to the right side of the face and Adelsbers with a fatal wound to the head.
Police said Adelsbers shot Grant and, thinking she was dead, then turned the gun on himself. Authorities said the two had been dating.
Adelsbers was pronounced dead at 12:45 a.m. Sunday, Cambria County Chief Deputy Coroner Jeffrey Lees said.
Grant was taken to Altoona Hospital Trauma Center before being flown to Pittsburgh, police said.
Cresson police and a state police forensics unit are investigating in an attempt to learn what led to the shooting.
