ATV accident kills Indiana Borough man

SHELOCTA
The Tribune-Democrat

An Indiana Borough man died early Sunday in an all-terrain vehicle accident.

Authorities said 23-year-old Ryan Henry was riding on a street in Shelocta at about 1:25 a.m. with a 15-year-old female passenger.

The ATV left the road, hitting a newspaper box and a utility pole, police said. Both riders, who were not wearing helmets, were thrown from the ATV.

Henry later was pronounced dead from blunt-force trauma at Indiana Regional Medical Center, county Coroner Michael Baker said.

The passenger, who was not identified, was flown to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh. Police said she suffered serious injuries.

The coroner’s office said the ATV had been “traveling at a high rate of speed.” The death has been ruled accidental, and toxicology reports are pending, Baker said.
