In brief: Woman gives birth en route to hospital

HASTINGS — A Northern Cambria woman gave birth on the way to Altoona Hospital after another hospital could not perform the delivery, authorities said.

Barry Blake, a paramedic for Veterans Memorial Ambulance Service, said the ambulance crew was transporting the pregnant woman to Altoona Hospital Thursday afternoon.

“We delivered the baby in transport,” Blake said. “The patient couldn’t wait.”

The woman was being transported from Miners Medical Center in Hastings, which does not have a labor and delivery unit, he said.

It was a 30-minute drive to Altoona.

Blake said there were no problems during delivery and mother and baby girl arrived safely to Altoona.

The ambulance crew included EMT Randi Pattison, and ambulance driver, Ben Huether.

Lawn ornaments reported stolen

CENTRAL CITY – State police in Somerset are asking for the public’s help in finding the thief who made off with lawn ornaments from a Shade Township residence.

Someone stole numerous ornaments from a residence on Lambert Street sometime between Saturday and Sunday, troopers said.

Anyone with information may call state police at 445-4104.

Sponsors sought for golf scramble

SOMERSET – State police are looking for hole sponsors for a golf scramble Friday.

The event begins at 12:30 p.m. at the Somerset Country Club. It is part of the a fundraiser for Camp Cadet of Somerset County. Sponsorships are $100.

Motorcyclist hurt in Upper Yoder crash

A motorcyclist was injured in a two-vehicle crash Sunday on Route 271 in Upper Yoder Township, authorities said.

Township police said Jeremy Fecko, 29, of Johnstown, was traveling south on 271 near Pickin’ Chicken when his

2003 Honda took the curve too wide and sideswiped an oncoming 1998 Dodge Stratus.

Fecko was taken to Memorial Medical Center in Johnstown with a shoulder injury.

The driver of the car was Brian Bell, 32, of Johnstown.

He was not injured, police said.

The crash remains under investigation.
