In brief: Fight outside bar leads to charges

An Ebensburg man was arrested on assault and related charges after being involved in a fight in which another man was injured early Saturday outside the Castle Pub on North Center Street.
Mike Dennison, 34, of the 200 block of Lakeview Road, was charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, harassment and disorderly conduct by the borough police. He was arraigned before on-call magistrate, District Judge Galen Decort of Portage.
The police said that one man had been taken to an area hospital for treatment. Other details were not available.
Dennison, who was released on $10,000 unsecured bond, faces a preliminary hearing Friday before District Judge Fred Creany of Ebensburg.
Flag rededication slated for Sunday
The Somerset County Flag Committee has reorganized and has raised funds to fly a 30-by-60-foot flag behind the Quality Inn in Somerset.
The flag had flown at the location for several years, but had not been raised for nearly two years.
A rededication ceremony will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday at the location.
The flag will be dedicated to all county veterans.
The 120-foot flagpole will be dedicated in honor of the Flight 93 heroes. A granite memorial will also be dedicated.

Program on sparking kids’ curiosity offered
SOMERSET – Wednesday is the registration deadline for a Better Kid Care program titled “Sparking Kids’ Curiosity” that will be presented via
teleconference from 7 to 9 p.m. June 16 in the Somerset County Cooperative Extension conference room at 6024 Glades Pike.

Those attending will discover clever materials to spark childrens’ creative thinking.
Child-care providers are eligible to receive Department of Public Welfare training credits, Continuing Education credits and Act 48 hours for participating in the workshop, the extension office noted.
Group sponsoring gardening seminar
Johnstown’s West End Improvement Group is sponsoring a gardening seminar for residents on Saturday.
The event is scheduled from 9 a.m. to noon at Grace Lutheran Church, 246 Chandler Ave.
A master gardener will conduct the session.
