Susquehanna seeking supervisors

EBENSBURG — President Judge Gerard Long said Monday that he will hold interviews June 18 with persons seeking appointments to fill two Susquehanna Township supervisor vacancies.

Residents interested in serving an interim appointment as supervisor should submit a letter of interest before that date, he said. He asked that the applicants include some general information about themselves.

Two vacancies developed in the past two months – first with the death of Supervisor Nancy Davis on April 9 and then the resignation of Edward Rich Lloyd on May 8, leaving only one supervisor – Kevin Stanek

– in office.

With those vacancies, township business has come to a standstill. Stanek, as the lone supervisor, is unable to conduct business, as that would take at least two votes – or a majority of the board.

Last week, township Solicitor Alex Svirsko submitted a petition signed by 18 township residents asking the judge to fill the vacancies.

Long also said that he was unable to grant the request of the township secretary for permission for Stanek and the appointed township treasurer to co-sign employees’ paychecks and other checks to pay bills.  

The law, he said, requires the approval of two supervisors for payment.

Long indicated that once he holds the interviews, he will make a decision promptly on the appointments so as not to further delay the checks.



Help wanted

Susquehanna Township has two supervisor vacancies. To serve, a person must:

• Be a registered voter. In Pennsylvania, a person must be at least 18 years old to vote.

• Have lived in the township for one year prior to taking office.
