Police investigate Cambria Twp. scam
EBENSBURG – Cambria Township police are reporting a two-person scam in which an elderly homeowner is distracted by one, while the other makes off with valuables.
Emma Jean Pyer, 82, of the 3700 block of Admiral Peary Highway was in her yard when a man came up to her and said he was a surveyor and asked to be shown around, police said.
Pyer did, and as she and the man were in her backyard, a second man entered her house through her garage, which was open, and took $10,000 in jewelry and about $600 in cash, Officer Boyd Sherry said.
A neighbor told police that he saw someone driving past Pyer’s house, slowing down, and then backing up. He described the car as a silver Subaru station wagon with two while males.
The driver was wearing a dark blue shirt and pants, and the other man was wearing a flannel shirt.
They left heading west on Route 22, police said.
