Boy Scouts on canoe trip rescued from SE Pa. river

Associated Press

CHADD’S FORD Rescuers have pulled 15 members of a Boy Scout troop from a rain-swollen river in suburban Philadelphia where they became trapped.

The scouts and their leaders were from a troop in Boothwyn, in Delaware County. They had been on a canoe outing around 1 p.m. Sunday along the Brandywine River in Chadds Ford when they became entangled in some overhanging trees.

Firefighters launched two boats to rescue the canoers near the Brandywine River Museum.

Authorities say two people were taken to Crozer Chester Medical Center in Upland for treatment of what appeared to be minor injuries.

One of two brothers drowned kayaking in the same area last week. The other brother, a Presbyterian minister, still has not been found.
