Community representatives sought for Head Start Policy Council

Community Action Partnership of Cambria County’s Head Start is looking for community representatives to serve on the Head Start Policy Council – the governing body for Head Start.

The council is made up of the representatives as well as parents of children enrolled in the program.

The group meets the second Tuesday of the month at the Penn State Extension office in Ebensburg.

Three Patton properties exonerated from taxes

EBENSBURG – Cambria County, along with Patton Borough and Cambria Heights School District, will exonerate three properties from past and current property taxes in Patton, the commissioners said Friday.

The three properties are either abandoned or deteriorating houses that are to be remodeled by Habitat for Humanity, the commissioners said.

One property is in the 200 block of James Avenue, and the two others in the 400 block of McIntyre Avenue.

When completed and new occupants move in, the properties will be back on the tax rolls producing revenues for the three taxing bodies, the commissioners said.

Water-line break affects about 35 customers

BEAVERDALE – About 35 customers in the village of Ruthford, located between Beaverdale and Sidman, lost water around 6:30 p.m. Friday when the top of a valve on a 6-inch, high-pressure water line malfunctioned.

Crews were expected to have repairs completed by late Friday, said Edward Englehart, manager of the Highland Sewer & Water Authority.

It’s unfortunate that customers in Ruthford were affected by the break, he said. No one else on the system would have even known there was a disruption, Englehart said.

Adams Township police said Route 869 between Sidman and Beaverdale was closed temporarily.

Also responding were firefighters from Beaverdale.
