In brief: Bethel Park man waives hearing

An Allegheny County man will face Cambria County Court action on charges he stole a laptop computer from a dormitory at Pitt-Johnstown on April 18.

Mili Jasarevic, 19, of Bethel Park, waived his right to a preliminary hearing Tuesday before District Judge Max Pavlovich of Richland Township. He is free on bail.

Pitt-Johnstown police said that Jasarevic, while residing in a dorm, broke into a neighboring residence and took the computer, valued at $2,000.

Latrobe teacher vying

for state award

HARRISBURG – A Latrobe teacher is among 12 finalists vying for the title of 2009 Teacher of the Year, state Education Secretary Gerald Zahorchak said.

Rebecca Snyder of the Greater Latrobe School District received that honor.

Teachers were nominated by students, parents, colleagues or community members. A committee of former Teacher of the Year recipients and past finalists select 30 semifinalists. From those 30, the committee chose 12.

The winner will be announced in October at the annual Teacher of the Year celebration in Harrisburg and will be Pennsylvania’s nominee for the National Teacher of the Year.

Research project will focus

on Ga. town during WWII

Officers, enlisted men, WACs, cadets, Britons, and civilians who were stationed at Cochran Field or lived in Macon, Ga., during World War II may take part in a research project.

Archivists hope to document stories from those who worked there during that period. Families also may participate.

For more information, write Mike Rowland, archivist, WR-LC/MU, 1942 Heritage Blvd., Robins AFB Ga., 31098-2442.
