South Fork driver hurt in crash

A South Fork man was taken to Memorial Medical Center after his vehicle plunged down a 25-foot embankment Monday.

William Apperson, 37, of Water Dam Road, was driving south on Route 219 in Richland Township when he lost control of his Pontiac Aztec at 10:55 a.m. The car crossed over the grass median and went down the embankment, township police said.

The car finally stopped when it struck a fence in thick brush about 35 yards from the road near The Galleria exit.

Police believe the driver had a medical condition that contributed to the crash.

Apperson was being treated in the emergency room Monday afternoon, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Richland Township Volunteer Fire Department also responded.

In other police news:

• A Johnstown man was jailed Monday after police said he left his 11-year-old son home alone while he went out to buy drugs.

The boy used a neighbor’s telephone to call his mother at 12:45 a.m. and tell her that his father, Eric Llwellyn Seabolt, had been gone since 9 p.m. Sunday, Richland Township police said.

A caseworker for Cambria County Children and Youth Services was contacted and the boy was handed over to his mother, police said.

Seabolt was taken into custody when he returned home shortly after 1 a.m.

Police said they seized a small piece of crack cocaine found in his hatband.

Seabolt was charged with endangering the welfare of children, possession of a controlled or counterfeit substance and possession with intent to use drug paraphernalia.

He was arraigned by District Judge Max Pavlovich of Richland, the on-call magistrate, and sent to the Cambria County Prison after failing to post $15,000 bond.

• DUNCANSVILLE – A Somerset resident is one of two men accused of selling nearly $10,000 worth of fireworks.

Calvin Carl Beggs, 78, of the 200 block of Cober Road, and John Herbert Clark, 56, of the 400 block of 10th Avenue, Altoona, were charged Friday with sale and possession of illegal fireworks, Duncansville police said.

Police seized $8,000 to $10,000 worth of fireworks that they said the men were storing at the Antique Depot on Second Avenue in Duncansville.

Beggs and Clark will answer the charges before District Judge Steven Jackson of Altoona.

• ROCKWOOD – A woman and three teenagers are accused of a drive-by paintball shooting in Black Township, state police in Somerset said.

The four drove around in a vehicle July 4 shooting at property along Walker Road, police said.

Charged were Jennifer Judy, 27, and Melissa France, 19, both of Rockwood; Joseph Henry, 19, of Garrett; and Lance Boden, 19, of Berlin.

Charges of disorderly conduct, criminal mischief and underage drinking were filed before District Judge Sandra Stevanus of Confluence.
