Authorities suggest that whoever killed three women at an auto glass shop may have hidden evidence at a relative’s nearby farm.
Eighty-one-year-old Edith Tietge, her sister, Doris Lee Murphy, and Murphy’s daughter were found shot to death April 23 inside Ferguson Glass in Saltsburg, Indiana County.
According to a warrant unsealed Tuesday, investigators found two rifles and bullets at the farm belonging to Roy Martin.
A handgun believed to be the murder weapon was found at the shop.
The warrant said Kevin Murphy, Doris Murphy’s son, had been at his uncle’s farm to tend animals the evening of the murders.
Police won’t say if Murphy is a suspect, but they’ve taken his blood and clothing to compare with other evidence.
Man fired shots in house, police say
SOUTH FORK – A man was charged with firing four gunshots at a bedroom door early Tuesday during a lengthy argument with a woman.
The incident occurred at a residence in the 300 block of Lake Street.
Kristopher Hogue, 22, was charged by South Fork police with reckless endangerment, flight to avoid apprehension and other offenses before District Judge Galen Decort, of Portage.
Hogue was lodged in the Cambria County Prison in lieu of bail and on a probation violation.
Police said Hogue’s stepfather took the gun away from him. Hogue and Stephanie Mayes, 19, the woman with whom he was arguing, fled in a vehicle and were located in Beaverdale.
Charges are pending against Mayes, police said.
Jenner fire was arson, state police determine
JENNERSTOWN – A blaze that caused $5,000 damage to an empty house at 176 Thomas Road in Jenner Township has been termed an arson by state police.
The fire occurred just after midnight Saturday.
The house is owned by Bob Gardill of Hollsopple.
Charges pending in tire-shooting case
NEW FLORENCE – Charges will be filed against a known perpetrator who shot out a man’s truck tires and a tractor tire with a .22-caliber rifle, state police in Indiana said.
Troopers said the crime occurred when Kenneth Samuel Mintmier, 60, of New Florence, got into an oral argument with the suspect, whose name was not released.
The spat escalated and the suspect shot the tires.
The incident occurred Sunday evening in the 800 block of Coal Road in West Wheatfield Township.
Barbin opposes cuts in veterans services
HARRISBURG – State Rep. Bryan Barbin, D-Westmont, on Monday joined more than
100 veterans and their supporters in protesting $25 million in proposed cutbacks in veterans services approved by the state Senate.
The Senate-passed budget measure would close the Scotland School for Veterans Children and pare state funding for nursing care for veterans.
“We’ve got to convince those who support the cuts that they are wrong,” Barbin said.
Interagency council will hold picnic today
PORTAGE – Cambria County Local Interagency Coordinating Council will hold its annual picnic from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Crichton McCormick Park in Portage.
The event is for families of children enrolled in Cambria County MH/MR early intervention services, IU8 preschool and Beginnings community programs. There is no charge to participating families.
About 27 agencies participate in the council.
