In brief: Beverage company facing charges

— LILLY – State police said Thursday that liquor charges have been brought against Lilly Beverage, 802 Evergreen St., Lilly.
According to the Bureau of Liquor Control Enforcement, the violations were:
n That from Feb. 4 through May 24, Manager James Krumenacker worked for 40 hours a week at Jen-Mar Corp. without liquor board approval.
n That the establishment failed to maintain proper records from June 1, 2006, through May 24.
The case will go before an administrative law judge. If convicted, the judge can impose fines of up to $5,000 and/or impose license suspension or revocation.
Heating-oil spill seeps into Blacklick Creek
NANTY GLO – Between 50 and 90 gallons of home heating oil got into a storm drain in the 1100 block of Caroline Street Thursday morning after it escaped from a homeowner’s tank.
A small amount of the oil got into Blacklick Creek and into a wet bed of the borough’s sewer plant, said Dave Shedlock, officer-in-charge for the responding Nanty Glo firefighters.
Shedlock said a nut on the tank apparently was loose, and the heating oil drained from that area. The tank had been filled earlier in the day while the homeowner – whose name was not immediately available – was still in bed, he said.
The situation was discovered by a sewer plant employee around 8 a.m.
Three officers from Cambria County’s hazmat team also responded, Shedlock said.
The firefighters were able to capture the oil from the creek, while borough workers cleared the oil at the plant, Shedlock said. The firefighters returned to their station shortly before 1 p.m. Thursday, Cambria 911 said.
