Witness intimidation suspect faces trial

Gregory Allen Muffie, 33, of the 1000 block of William Penn Avenue, Johnstown, waived charges of intimidation of a witness or victim, criminal coercion and terroristic threats to Cambria County Court.

Muffie waived the case to court before District Judge Mary Ann Zanghi of Mineral Point.

East Taylor Township police accused Muffie of threatening to kill a woman and her children if she provided information against him in a pending criminal case.



Teen lifeflighted after swimming accident

TRENT – A 15-year-old boy was taken by medical helicopter to a hospital when he struck his head while swimming at Laurel Hill State Park on Monday afternoon.

The boy was in three feet of water at the beach when he dived into the water and hit his head, a spokesman for the Bakersville Volunteer Fire Company said. The youth, who was unresponsive, was pulled from the water by bystanders, he said.

Further details were not available.



Ebensburg eatery faces liquor violation

EBENSBURG – Lilamrut Hospitality LLC – which operates the Jersey Grille, 1001 Rowena Drive – faces a liquor violation, state police said Thursday.

The Bureau of Liquor Control Enforcement said the establishment served a visibly intoxicated man on Dec. 8.

The charge now goes before an administrative law judge. If convicted, Lilamrut Hospitality faces a fine of up to $5,000 and or license suspension or revocation depending on the severity of the charge.



Girlfriend of homicide suspect gets lawyer

ROARING SPRING – Altoona attorney Joel Seelye has been appointed to represent a Johnstown woman charged with hindering the apprehension of her boyfriend, who was being sought in the killing of a camping buddy.

Donna Marie Hawk, 44, of Messenger Street, is in Blair County Prison in lieu of $750,000 on hindering charges and others related to her allegedly joining her boyfriend in stealing the victim’s car and shotgun.

Shawn Patrick Dugan, 37, is charged with criminal homicide in the shooting death of 39-year-old Marcus Chromy in the Blue Knob area. Both men were from the Johnstown area – Dugan of Lower Yoder Township and Chromy, Daisytown.

Dugan is in the Blair jail in lieu of bond.

Dugan and Hawk’s preliminary hearing scheduled for last week was continued so that an attorney could be appointed to represent Hawk.

Dugan is being represented by Kenneth Sottile of Carrolltown.

The hearing likely will not be held until early September, District Judge Fred Ormsby’s office said Monday.
