The Pittsburgh-based Highmark Foundation, through the Highmark Healthy High 5 School Challenge, recently awarded nearly $526,000 in grants to 65 elementary, middle and high schools – including schools in Greater Johnstown.
The grants will support programs that address bullying prevention and self-esteem, improve nutrition education, enhance nutrition choices and provide opportunities for physical activity.
The average grant is more than $8,000.
Ten schools in Blair County, along with the following schools, listed by county, received money:
• Cambria – Northern Cambria Elementary School.
• Somerset – Berlin Brothersvalley Middle, Conemaugh Township Intermediate, Windber Middle/High School and Windber Elementary.
• Indiana – McCreery Middle School in the Marion Center Area School District.
• Westmoreland – R.K. Mellon Elementary in the Ligonier Valley District.
