Police: Man beat dog with nail-filled board

Associated Press

PITTSBURGH A Pittsburgh man is confined in a psychiatric hospital until authorities determine he can be safely released to stand trial on charges of beating a dog with a nail-filled board.

Twenty-five-year-old Anthony Ansill is charged with one count of animal cruelty for the attack on the mixed-breed dog July 5.

Police say Ansill was watching the dog for a friend and became angry because the dog urinated on Ansill’s bed.

The dog suffered deep cuts to its chest and abdomen and is being cared for by Animal Friends. The dog will take about six months to heal.

Ansill waived his right to a preliminary hearing Thursday. Once released from the psychiatric hospital, Ansill will be confined to his home and not allowed to own for care for an animal.
