Searchers find hikers missing in Westmoreland County

Associated Press

DERRY, Pa. Searchers say they have found a family of four who became lost while hiking on state game lands in Westmoreland County.

Searchers aren’t naming the family, which includes a couple and two six-year-old children.

The family called to say they were lost about 8:30 p.m. Thursday in the Derry Ridge state game lands.

Officials say the family became disoriented in heavy foliage in a deep ravine.

Searchers aren’t saying how or where they found the family, but say they are safe.

The searchers talked to the family on their cell phone until it went dead sometime after 10 p.m. Searchers had been using those phone signals to narrow their search.
