In brief: Teen driver injured in crash

BLANDBURG A 16-year-old Fallentimber girl suffered moderate injuries when the 2000 Ford Focus she was driving crashed, state police said Thursday.

Taylor M. Troxell was traveling south on Route 253 in Reade Township on Wednesday afternoon when she was distracted by an animal on the southbound berm, police said.

She veered into the northbound lane and off the road.

The car struck a small tree and a dirt embankment before rolling over and coming to rest upright.

Troxell was taken by ambulance to Altoona Regional Medical Center, where she was treated and released.

She was not charged.

Fundraiser planned for music therapy

A fundraising booth to benefit a music therapy program will be part of Shade-Central City Heritage Days from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the community park off Chestnut Street in Central City.

The music therapy program is conducted at the John P. Murtha Neuroscience and Pain Institute in Richland Township.

The “Johnny’s Angels” booth honors Ruth and John Napora Sr. It will feature silent auction items and a fish pond for children.

Incentive available for no-till farming

EBENSBURG – The Cambria County Conservation District has been awarded a $5,000 no-till incentive grant from the state Department of Environmental Protection for farmers in the Chesapeake Bay watershed of Cambria and Indiana counties.

The grant offers payments to applicants to try no-till methods to plant small grains, soybeans, corn and cover crops.
