A Croyle Township road worker on his way to work was killed shortly before 6 a.m. Monday when he was ejected from his SUV after it was hit by another vehicle on Route 53.
Coroner Dennis Kwiatkowski said that 59-year-old Gary Lee Yeager died of a head injury. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
State police said that the accident happened near Croyle Street in Summerhill Borough as Yeager was traveling north. A southbound Dodge Neon driven by Ryan J. Cameron, 21, of Loretto, crossed the center line on a curve and struck the SUV on the side, according to the police.
The SUV then rolled over, with Yeager – who was not wearing a seat belt – being ejected from the vehicle, the police said.
Following the impact, the Neon went out of control and slid sideways into the path of another northbound vehicle, a Ford Escort driven by William J. Gabany, 39, of South Fork.
Police said that Cameron and Gabany, who were both wearing seat belts, were not injured in the accident.
