Man threatened to shoot his wife inside post office, police say

By PATRICK BUCHNOWSKI
The Tribune-Democrat

BOSWELL A Davidsville man was jailed after he allegedly threatened to open fire at the Boswell post office when his wife, an employee there, said she was divorcing him, authorities said.

In a criminal complaint, Conemaugh Township police said James M. Stevanus, 39, of South Main Street, became angry when Michelle Stevanus told him she was filing for divorce.

Stevanus threatened his wife and her co-workers Thursday, saying he would take a gun to the post office and “take you all out.”

A day later, while she was at the police department, Michelle Stevanus received a cell-phone call from her husband, begging her not to file criminal charges or get a protection from abuse order against him.

The call was monitored by police on speaker phone.

Police said that when Michelle Stevanus told her husband she was filing charges and a PFA, he became combative and said no one was going to make him leave his house.

Stevanus was taken into custody after an arrest warrant was issued.

He was arraigned during the weekend by on-call District Judge Douglas Bell of Meyersdale on charges of terroristic threats and harassment.

He was sent to the Somerset County Jail on $1,000 bond.
