New! City fire forces evacuation

JOHNSTOWN — Fire and a ruptured gas line at 112 Hillside Court in Johnstown forced the evacuation of a dozen nearby residents Friday afternoon.

City firefighters and gas company officials worked to shut of the gas.

The gas was shut off, the fire contained and residents returned to the homes.

The fire started as workers were removing scrap from the building in preparation for demolishing the building and ruptured a gas line, said Steve Foster, manager of Greater Johnstown Property Investments, which owns the building.

“I was surprised there was an active gas line in a building that hasn’t had anybody living in it,” Foster said.

No injuries were reported.
