In brief: Minor injuries reported in wreck

The Tribune-Democrat

GALLITZIN Minor injuries were reported by two occupants of a school bus early Friday after the driver of a Dodge Neon couldn’t slow down in time and slid into the front of the bus.

The driver of the car, Christine Jones of Gallitzin, was taken to Altoona Hospital for minor injuries, state police said.

Police said the wreck occurred as the bus – driven by Theresa Plazek of Loretto – exited a railroad underpass on Chestnut Street.

Jones tried to slow down, lost control and slid into the bus, police said.

The bus was carrying school children at the time of the 7:30 a.m. crash but police didn’t say if the injured were kids.

Jones was cited for driving at an unsafe speed, police said.

Service will be held for crash victims

PORTAGE – A candlelight service of prayer and remembrance sponsored by local clergy and community leaders will be held at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 6 at the Portage Area Stadium.

The gathering will be held to remember Richard McKrush, Jordan Gordon Krug Jr., Ryan Zunich and Eric Secriskey, whose lives were lost in a July 13 crash.

Prayers will be offered for their families, the survivors, emergency personnel and all others affected by this tragedy.

The ceremony is open to the public.

Donations are being collected at Stager’s Store, Sprankle’s, Dominic’s, Dough Boys, Mama Sue’s and Sassy Sisters.

Checks may be made payable to Bethany United Methodist Church and designated for a community memorial service.

After the cost of the service is covered, proceeds will be donated to the Portage Regional Endowment in memory of the four young adults.

For more information, call Bethany United Methodist Church at 736-8651.
