Fire company tallies funds
BLAIRSVILLE – U.S. Rep. Bill Shuster, R-Hollidaysburg, on Thursday presented a $205,000 check to the Young Men’s Volunteer Fire Company of Blairsville. The check represents a $155,000 Community Facilities loan and a $50,000 grant.
“The funding provided by Rural Development is critical to the success of rural fire departments like the Young Men’s Volunteer Fire Company,” Shuster said.
“Without grants like this, our volunteer firefighters would be unable to afford the enormous cost of replacing and updating critical equipment that saves lives and preserves property.”
The Rural Development loan and grant monies will be used to buy a new KME rescue/pumper vehicle replacing a 1985 rescue truck and a 1981 pumper. Additional funds were provided by the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency, $160,000, and the borrower’s contribution, $205,604.
