North Star graduate wounded in Afghanistan

The Tribune-Democrat

A 2006 graduate of North Star High School was among several Marines wounded Thursday during fighting in Afghanistan.

Lance Cpl. Chris Gisbrecht, 21, suffered a chest wound, according to information his father, Donald Gisbrecht of Boswell, received from the military.

The Marine also is the son of Brooke McCombie of Hooversville.

Donald Gisbrecht said he is awaiting word from the military on the condition of his son and the location of the hospital that is treating him.

He believes his son and the other Marines were wounded by a mortar shell.

Donald Gisbrecht said his son loves his country and left for the Marines just after graduating from high school.

Lance Cpl. Gisbrecht served one tour of duty in Iraq and has been in Afghanistan since June 11, his father said.

At North Star, he was on the football, baseball and wrestling teams.
