Record number of participants to attend Small Business Expo

By MIKE FAHER
The Tribune-Democrat

Despite the continuing economic recession, turnout will be strong at Thursday’s Small Business Expo in Johnstown.

In fact, the gathering has attracted a record of 50 participants – a number that has

organizers already thinking about adding more space for next year.

“At this point, we’re sold out,” said Mike Artim, the event’s chairman.

The expo, to be held at Pasquerilla Conference Center, Napoleon Street, is organized by Greater Johnstown-Cambria County Chamber of Commerce and is sponsored by a number of local businesses.

Artim – who is the chamber’s vice chairman and executive director of Johnstown’s Cambria-Rowe Business College

– said he believes the sour economy has encouraged more participation from business owners who are interested in face-to-face networking.

“In an economy like this,

people are looking at every opportunity to increase sales,” he said.

The expo also is a chance for small businesses to connect with local residents.

The event is free and open to the public from 3 to 5 p.m. Thursday.

“People are unaware of the variety of services that are available,” Artim said. “It’s a great opportunity to see some businesses that are right here in Johnstown.”

Organizers also are hoping to promote a “buy local” theme.
