Robber attempts Burger King holdup

BY KIRK SWAUGER
The Tribune-Democrat

SOMERSET State police are searching for a suspect who tried to rob the Burger King in Somerset Township late Thursday.

Authorities said a man entered the restaurant on Route 31 around 9:30 p.m. and ordered an employee to open the register. When the employee refused, the man ran away.

Trooper Terry Wilson said authorities have little to go on.

The suspect is described as 5-foot-8 or 5-foot-9, thinly built and blue-eyed.

He was wearing dark clothing and white gloves and had a bandanna covering his face and a knit, brimmed cap on his head.

Police said the suspect may have been carrying a toy gun.

No one was in the restaurant at the time, and no injuries were reported.

Police said they aren’t sure whether the would-be bandit escaped on foot or in a getaway car.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Somerset barracks at 445-4104.
