3 Geistown businesses donating proceeds toward rec complex

By RANDY GRIFFITH
The Tribune-Democrat

Wednesdays will be community day at three Scalp Avenue restaurants teaming up to help make East Hills Recreation Commission’s dream of a recreation complex come true.

“We are trying to raise awareness of what our ultimate goal is,” East Hills Director Jim Miliauskas said. “That is to have a recreation complex that we can all be proud of and to improve the quality of life for everyone in the community.”

It’s all about working together as a community, said Anthony Rizzo Jr. of Anthony’s Mediterranean Grill, 725 Scalp Ave.

“I grew up in Windber,” Rizzo said. “Since I came to Geistown, I often felt it didn’t have that community thing going.

“What better way to give back to our community than to build this recreation center?”

Anthony’s joins Home Town Bar and Grill, 1007 Scalp Ave., and Pasta Shoppe, 800 Scalp Ave., in a pledge to donate a percentage of the restaurant’s daily proceeds on Wednesdays.

Anthony’s will feature a Wednesday special as part of the promotion and will donate 15 percent of its profits on the first Wednesday of the month.

Pasta Shoppe owner Rick McQuaide said his restaurant became involved because he’s a member of East Hills Recreation.

“I’d like to see some new facilities built,” McQuaide said. “I think it’s great for the community and for my family.”

The Pasta Shoppe is donating 15 percent of the day’s receipts on the fourth Wednesday of every month.

Hometown Bar and Grill is donating 15 percent of its receipts for the second Wednesday of the month.
