Blair County judge mulls contempt order for Amish sawmill

HOLLIDAYSBURG — A judge is mulling a contempt of court order against an Amish man ordered to quiet his furniture-making business because of noise complaints from neighbors.

Noah Hostetler says he has reduced the noise even though he didn’t do so exactly the way he was ordered by Blair County Judge Timothy Sullivan. That’s why Sullivan, who heard Hostetler’s testimony Thursday, must decide in the next few days whether Hostetler is in contempt of a March court order.

Hostetler says he did not build new walls or install installation as the judge recommended.

But Hostetler’s attorney says a blower and dust collection system was improved to cut down on the noise. The attorney says that was the goal of the judge’s order so Hostetler shouldn’t be considered in contempt of court.
