Police: Angry race driver hit track worker

Associated Press

INDIANA Police say a race car driver angry over being “bumped” by another vehicle will face criminal charges after he sped down a western Pennsylvania track in the wrong direction, intentionally hitting the other car and knocking it into a track official.

State police Tpr. Todd Stephenson says the unnamed driver will be charged with aggravated assault and other related charges. The injured official is recovering from multiple injuries in a Pittsburgh hospital.

Stephenson says the racers were bumping one another at the Challenger Speedway in Indiana County when one driver spun out. He says the driver who got hit then raced down the track, intentionally hitting the right wheel of the car that had slammed into him and knocking it into 42-year-old Michael Polena.
