In brief: Lighter, lint set off fire in Westmont

The Tribune-Democrat

JOHNSTOWN Firefighters from four departments responded when fire broke out in the basement of a Westmont home around 8:20 p.m. Friday.

West Hills fire Chief Don Blasko said the owner of a 21/2-story home in the 100 block of Wyoming Street was working on the heating system to try to get heat into a first-floor bathroom. The man entered a crawl space in the basement to examine the plumbing that went into the bathroom. To see better, he lit a lighter, and the flame ignited lint that had accumulated from a nearby dryer.

Firefighters confined the fire to the crawl space. Damage was minimal there and there was minor to moderate smoke damage through the remainder of the home, Blasko said.
