A state police fire marshal was on the scene of a structure fire Sunday afternoon that left a family of four homeless.
According to Nanty Glo fire Chief Joe LaMantia, Trooper Tim Frew has not yet determined what caused the blaze at the Carl Murowski residence on the 100 block of School Road in Twin Rocks, Blacklick Township.
LaMantia said flames already were through the roof of the one-story structure when firefighters arrived shortly before 5 p.m. No one was home when the fire broke out.
“The home is a total loss,” LaMantia said, adding that volunteers from the American Red Cross arrived to assist the family. He said he did not know where the family was staying.
He said the home was insured, but a damage estimate was not yet available.
LaMantia said it took firefighters a while to “set up” when they arrived because the home was about 1,500 feet from a public water source, and the narrow driveway made it difficult for trucks to access the residence.
Firefighters from Nanty Glo, Revloc, Dauntless and Vintondale fire departments battled the blaze.
There were no injuries.
