Man held in park break-ins

By PATRICK BUCHNOWSKI
The Tribune-Democrat

BOSWELL A Westmoreland County man has been linked to vandalism spree at state parks in at least three counties, authorities said.

Ronald S. Fetterman Jr., 43, of Ligonier, allegedly vandalized vehicles at Prince Gallitzin State Park in Cambria County, Laurel Ridge State Park in Somerset County and Linn Run State Park in Westmoreland County.

Park rangers and police said Fetterman broke into vehicles making off with cash, credit cards, cells phones and other items.

The incidents happened in September.

• On Sept. 7, Fetterman allegedly smashed a window of a 2005 Chevrolet Equinox at the state Route 271 trailhead parking area of Laurel Ridge.

He waived his right to a preliminary hearing Monday on theft and related charges before District Judge Susan Mankamyer of Boswell.

• That same day, Fetterman allegedly attempted to use a stolen credit card in Lower Yoder Township. He was charged by West Hills Regional Police with receiving stolen property and access device fraud.

• On Sept. 14, Fetterman allegedly smashed the front passenger window of a 2001 Dodge Durango at Prince Gallitzin. He waived his right to a preliminary hearing on theft charges Monday before District Judge Mary Ann Zanghi of Vinco.

• Rangers at Linn Run also have charged Fetterman with vandalism.

The investigation is continuing. Fetterman is being held in the Westmoreland County Prison.
