Johnstown melee results in attempted homicide charge

JOHNSTOWN — Three people were jailed, one for attempted homicide, following a fight in Johnstown’s West End on Saturday.

Derrick Michael Jaindl, 27; Dawn R. Hale, 35; and Alexander William Forsythe Jr., 44, barged into a home in the 100 block of Wilson Street at 1:46 a.m., city police said in a court document.

Forsythe then attacked two men in the home, police said, and when someone tried to stop the fight, Jaindl pulled a handgun.

Jaindl pointed the gun at one man’s head and pulled the trigger, but the weapon did not fire, police said in an affidavit of probable cause.

Jaindl said he was “going to kill everyone in the house,” police said.

A 14-year old child was hit with the gun during the scuffle, police said.

Hale and Forsythe were arrested at the scene.

Jaindl was picked up at a home on Dorothy Avenue, where police said they found blood splattered on the brown coat he was wearing.

A High Point 9mm handgun was later recovered in a bush near the scene on Wilson Street.

A check with the National Crime Information Center showed that Hale owned the gun.

Charges against Hale, of Hershberger Road, and Forsythe, of State Street, include burglary, simple assault, criminal trespass and simple assault.

They were arraigned by District Judge Mary Ann Zanghi of Vinco and sent to the Cambria County Prison after each failed to post 10 percent of $75,000 bond.

Jaindl, of Dorothy Avenue, was charged with criminal attempt/homicide, aggravated assault, former convict not to possess a firearm, terroristic threats, reckless endangerment and harassment.

He was sent to the Cambria County Prison after failing to post 10 percent of his $150,000 bond.

Police said the fight started at a local bar, and then continued at the Wilson Street home, but they do not know the reason for the fight.
