New - Longhorns escape in trailer accident

Associated Press

PHILIPSBURG A central Pennsylvania accident meant double duty for animal rescue workers: check three longhorn cattle for injuries, and get traffic moving again on a major interstate.

A bull, a cow and a calf got loose when their trailer blew a tire and overturned Tuesday on Interstate 80. The cattle gathered in the median and traffic backed up near the Philipsburg interchange, 20 miles northwest of State College.

Centre and Clearfield County animal rescue teams went to the scene and went to work rounding up the longhorns. Centre County team member Randy Romesberg says the cattle were a little bruised but otherwise unharmed. They were herded onto a trailer, and I-80 was fully cleared in about four hours.
