1st home in Windber development complete

By RANDY GRIFFITH
The Tribune-Democrat

WINDBER The first of 22 proposed housing units has been completed, marking the official opening of Hillside View Estates.

The single-family ranch home is located on the corner of Baumgartner Avenue and Center Street at the development’s gateway.

“This is a spec home for people to take a look at,” said George Ledney, co-owner of developer GeMar Limited Partnership. His brothers, Jerry and Douglas Ledney, also are partners.

Plans call for an additional single-family home, four duplexes and four three-unit townhouses, Ledney said.

Each of the 22 residential units will be offered for sale.

Construction is complete on the extension to Baumgartner Avenue that will provide access to all homes.

An open house is planned from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday at the model home.

A borough council member, George Ledney said he believes new residential opportunities will promote economic development in the borough.

GeMar successfully obtained approval to have the development included in a general residential zone. It previously was zoned exclusively for single-family homes.
