Country star, Larry the Cable Guy coming to Johnstown
By RANDY GRIFFITH
The Tribune-Democrat
Two major shows are coming to Johnstown during the next four months.
Country star Trace Adkins brings his American Man Tour to Johnstown at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 1 in Cambria County War Memorial Arena.
Larry the Cable Guy will return to the War Memorial at 7:30 p.m. March 20.
Known for hits like “Honky Tonk Badonkadonk,” “Ladies Love Country Boys” and “I Left Something Turned on at Home,” Adkins will be joined on stage by “American Idol” finalist Bucky Covington and new country artist Justin Moore.
“It’s always exciting when we get something of this level,” arena General Manager Jim Vautar said. “It’s good for everybody. It’s good for the arena. It’s good for the businesses around there.”
Tickets are $39.75 for the Adkins show. They go on sale at 10 a.m. Dec. 7 at the arena ticket office or by calling (800) 243-8499.
Adkins’ reputation for working-class music goes back to his days as a pipefitter on an off-shore drilling rig, his Web site says.
He soon made a name for himself at honky-tonks bars in Texas and Louisiana before moving to Nashville in 1992, where he did construction work while waiting for his break. That came when then-Capitol Records President Scott Hendricks spotted Adkins playing at a Nashville-area bar.
He will release his latest album, “American Man, Greatest Hits Volume II” on Dec. 4. His book, “Trace Adkins: A Personal Stand,” went on sale this month.
Larry the Cable Guy, known offstage as Dan Whitney, popularized catch phrases like “Git-R-Done” and “Lord, I apologize.” He last appeared in Johnstown in November 2005.
Tickets to the comedy show are $43.75 and go on sale Dec. 14.
