NEW VIDEO – Flooding closes shopping center, several area roads

The Tribune-Democrat

Heavy rain and melting snow in Cambria and Somerset counties has caused major flooding in various locations.

Much of East Hills Plaza in Richland Township is closed due to water in the stores.

There have been several reports of roads closed in the region. A portion of Route 4008 (Beech Street) in Elder Township, Cambria County, has closed as well as several in Somerset County including a portion of Route 4013 (Keysertown Road), Route 3007 (Humbert Road), Route 4055 (Gilmore Access Road), Route 4016 (Moonlite Park Road) and parts of Route 985.

The roads will remain closed until the water has receded and the roadway can be cleaned of any debris. Drivers are urged to find an alternate route if they encounter high water.

PennDOT warns drivers not to drive across flooded roadways, as there is no way of knowing if the roadway is still intact or how deep the water is.

Motorists are reminded to slow down on wet roadways and to always use their headlights when their windshield wipers are on.

Weather conditions may change as the day progresses and wet roadways may freeze.
