In brief: Employee facing theft charges

BERLIN A convenience store employee has been charged with stealing cash from her employer.

Amy L. Lape, 47, of Berlin, was charged by Somerset state police with theft by deception, tampering with records and receiving stolen property.

While working at Diamond Mini Market, Lape allegedly voided various transactions during her shift and took the money for the voided sales prior to her departure from

the store, police said.

The crimes occurred between Aug. 1 and Dec. 20.

Charges were filed at District Judge Douglas McCall Bell’s office in Meyersdale.

Rose sale raises $1.1G for Birthright

NORTHERN CAMBRIA – Barnesboro Knights of Columbus Council 2277 recently donated $1,100 to Birthright of Johnstown.

The funds were raised by members at the annual Respect Life rose sale held in October.

The council is made of members from Prince of Peace, St. Bernard and St. Nicholas Roman Catholic churches as well as St. John’s Byzantine and St. Mary’s Ukrainian churches.

Riding therapy program awarded $4,200

SOMERSET – STAR, Somerset Therapeutic Association for Riding, was awarded a $4,200 grant from E.MAP, Employers Medical Access Partnership.

The grant will provide scholarships to 10 children with special needs for weekly horseback riding lessons and therapy exercises in 2009.

E.MAP is a business coalition serving employers in Somerset, Cambria, Bedford, Blair and Indiana counties.

In 2008, E.MAP contributed more than $35,000 in support of local charities and civic programs.
